Urbanas second-heaviest store on the Champaign-Urbana campus has been shut down for safety reasons, but the owner isn’t stopping there.
In a statement on Facebook, the owner of the Champagne and Pecan Hut announced the closure of the second-floor store due to “a health and safety issue.”
“The safety of our customers is our highest priority and we are sorry that this situation has arisen.
However, we will continue to serve our customers and continue to keep the Champagnes Second Hand store open,” the statement read.
The Urbannas Facebook page has been inundated with people expressing their concern over the closure.
The store has a history of selling and selling and sells mostly second- and third-hand merchandise, including furniture, electronics, food, and other non-perishable items.
Urbans owner says he plans to reopen it, but that it will likely be closed for good for now.
The Urbandale Police Department told Breitbart News that the incident occurred early Wednesday morning when the store owner was contacted by the Champaginian.
The owner was able to speak with officers, and he was advised to contact the Champana County Sheriff’s Office to determine the cause of the incident.
The Champaign Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
