Urbana Champaign, Ill.
— Urbaniacs, the second-most popular store on the Champaign-Urbana metro area’s first-floor “Second Hand Store” will close.
The Champaign Chronicle reports that the second hand store, located at 1814 South Champaign Avenue, was slated to open for business April 8.
But that date has been pushed back to June 12 to avoid the possibility of a snowstorm.
The store will close as part of the remodel and will reopen as a second-floor store June 13, according to the Champinois Department of Public Works.
The Champaign News-Gazette reports that a portion of the property is expected to be converted into a secondhand store and that the location will remain open as a first-hand store.
Urbans owner, Jim Kuehne, told the paper that he expects the business to be profitable in the long run.
“It’s an investment in the community,” he said.
“I think the business will come back in a heartbeat.”
